French for Beginners- ONLINE
How would you like to take a trip to Paris, or just refresh your French? This 10 week class will cover basic vocabulary, greetings, phrases, and what you need to make full sentences or ask questions. We will also work on some strategies that will help you to learn in the future. Through games, songs, videos, storytelling, and humor, you will acquire the language you need to get around if you are traveling or interacting with French speakers while acquiring some culture at the same time. We will be reinforcing class time with some text and written exercises. Please purchase a new copy of the textbook: Easy French Step by Step (McGraw Hill) from Amazon or order from your local bookstore.This class will meet online. You will receive an email prior to the start date of your class with information on how to participate.

Gentle Evening Yoga with Ellen
This gentle yoga class is a meditative, fluid, and soothing class suitable for all levels. Students will experience slow movements to warm the body and release stress and muscular tension, breathing techniques to support the nervous system, and simple postures to help build strength and stability. Suitable for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.Bring your mat and water bottle, as well as blocks and strap (towel) if needed. We will have some yoga mats and blocks available to borrow. Watercolor for Beginners
In this introduction to watercolor painting, this is a 10 session (20 hours) will promise to give you the skills required to enjoy watercolor as your new loved hobby! Learn the foundations of this versatile and creative medium: Design layouts, color palettes, composition, texture, and light will all be covered. Ginny Joyner, a professional watercolor illustrator, leads everyone through exercises designed to explore the many techniques associated with watercolor. No previous art experience required. Open to all ages and levels! Quality materials are important in watercolor and are included in the fee, valued at $75. Kits will be available the first day of class. This class will meet inside CVU. Mixed Level Wheel Throwing Tuesdays with Ryan Strobel- 12 weeks!
If you are just beginning your wheel throwing journey, or if you have some experience, but want to learn more while you work independently, then join us for Mixed Level Wheel Throwing with veteran potter of 20 years, and high school ceramics teacher, Ryan Strobel. During these 12 weeks you will discover the art of pottery wheel throwing in this engaging mixed-level class, perfect for beginners and experienced potters alike. Learn essential techniques, refine your skills, and create unique ceramic pieces under the guidance of an expert instructor in a supportive, creative, and judgement-free environment. Only 10 spots available! Students will each receive a 25lb bag of stoneware-mid-fire clay, Cone 6. All clay, glazes (brushed and dipped), use of the studio, tools, as well as firing costs are included in the fee. NOTE: Only studio glazes and clay will be allowed. BONUS: Free access to "Open Studio" on Monday evenings 5pm-8pm starting 2/10-6/9 (no open studio on 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/31, 4/21, 5/26). Wheel usage is on a first come basis. Watercolor Studio with Ginny Joyner
With 35 hours of instruction and 14 sessions, Ginny will supervise this studio style class and help you master your watercolor techniques! Improve your color palette and brush techniques as you work on more challenging class projects as well as your own projects. Each 2.5 hour session will take place in the visual art space at CVU. This course is designed for artists who have taken watercolor classes previously and are comfortable working independently. Some guided instruction and supervision will be available as you progress throughout this course. This is also great class to connect, gather and learn from other watercolor enthusiasts within our artistic community! Please bring your own watercolor paint, brushes, and paper to class. Open Lathe Workshop -Bowl Turning with Eddie!
This is an open studio style, 10-session workshop, designed for those that have some bowl turning experience and feel comfortable in a woodworking shop and using a lathe. With a small class size of 6, this allows each student to work on their own lathe while Eddie supervises and helps guide novice wood bowl turners. Blanks will be available to purchase ($10 each- cash), or BYO wood blanks. Want to buy your own gouge? Contact us for recommendations. Wear closed toed shoes, hat (hair tied back), and bring your own protective eye wear/goggles. No loose clothing or accessories! I’d had some prior turning instruction and time on the lathe, but with Eddie I was able to work semi-independently, make my own errors, ask for advice and really progress. Welding Fabrication II- Intermediate to Advanced
This technical hands-on course is designed for those with prior welding experience. Completion of the Introduction to Welding Through Fabrication course is preferred. The course will cover welding of carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum using SMAW (arc or stick welding), GMAW (MIG or wirefeed welding) and GTAW (TIG welding). Oxy-Fuel cutting and plasma cutting will also be available. The option to weld a small project of your own during the class. There will be a brief overview and refresher at the start of class. The focus of this course will be attaining proficiency in welding the three standard joints (butt, lap and T) using all three major processes. Out of position welding will be strongly encouraged. All equipment and consumable materials are included in the fee. Recommendations and Requirements: Students must always wear safety toe leather boots, cotton pants and long sleeved cotton shirts. Turtlenecks are recommended for shirt type. All apparel should not have any holes or frays. The shop has welding PPE to borrow, but it may not fit properly and is used a fair amount by all students. Students should consider purchasing their own PPE prior to class, such as safety glasses, ear plugs, and welders caps. Students can purchase welding PPE locally at either Haun Welding Supply or Airgas, which are both in Williston, VT. Mention you are a taking an Access class for 10% off! Minimum age requirement: 16+

Digital Photography Bootcamp
Got a digital camera and need a refresher on how to optimize photos using the different functions? In this 4-session course, we will review digital camera functions and how to use them, visual-design and framing considerations, as well as explore some Adobe Photoshop editing skills to bring your photos to life. We will take our camera outside, weather permitting, for a technical and visual exploration around the CVU campus. During registration you will have the opportunity to tell us what you are interested in specifically learning so the instructor can tailor the class to your level and interests. Emphasis will be on each individual student's interests. For novice through intermediate-level photographers. This class will meet at CVU in the Photography Classroom Lab. Each student will have use of a computer loaded with Adobe Photoshop software. This course is offered by minimum donation. Your donation to community education helps sustain, grow, and improve our program. Your kind contribution keeps class fees affordable and accessible to all. Thank you!

Riveting Basics: Silver Pendant
Join fine local jewelry maker, Jolynn Santiago, and learn how to make a beautiful piece of jewelry to wear of gift. Riveting is a process where two or more pieces of metal are connected without heat. There are several types of rivets. This class focuses on the basic rivet; a metal pin with a shank and two nail heads that holds two or more pieces of metal together. Once the basic rivet is secured with a hammer, the parts are permanently immobilized. In this class, students will create a sterling silver pendant. In addition to riveting, students will learn how to saw using a jeweler’s saw, file, sand, anneal (soften metal), apply texture and patina. On the last day of class, we will discuss the students’ finished projects as a group. We’ll also discuss creating a setup for those who wish to continue practicing their riveting skills at home. Students will leave this class with handmade jewelry, a better understanding of basic riveting, the resources needed to order the proper materials and the knowledge to create a small riveting set-up of their own. All materials, and tools for use during class are included in the fee. All levels are welcome! (Photos are examples of designs using the riveting process)

Comic Book Illustration- All Levels Welcome!
Welcome to the wonderful world of fantasy and narrative comic book illustrations! In this 4- session class we will go over how to draw figures within the context of an illustrated narrative using visual symbols to stylize the figure. Some examples of stylization are Manga style cartooning, American comic style cartooning, and cartooning for animation. We will create a character and then put that character within a narrative 1-2 pages in length. At the end of the course students will have a completed character sheet and a 1-2 page sequential story showcasing their character. Other topics covered will include, breaking a script, writing for comics, anatomy and perspective. This class is designed for students of all skill levels! A list of materials to purchase prior to class will be provided after registration. Minimum age: 14+

Fused Glass Wind Chime
Come to this workshop to learn how to make your own set of wind chimes (or sun catchers) out of glass. The wind chimes can be hung outside in a protected spot, inside on a houseplant or in a window. Your finished product will be tack fired after class in a glass kiln and available for pick-up at CVU a week later. All materials are included in class fee. No experience required. For students ages 13 and older. Students aged 8-12 are welcome; they should register with an adult who is also registered for the class, and plan to have one dedicated adult for each child attending. This class will meet inside CVU.

Learn How to Turn a Wooden Bowl!
Join Andrew Duling, a professional wood turner, to make your first hardwood bowl! Each participant will receive a hardwood blank and have their own lathe to use during class. Learn how to use and work safely on a lathe. Turn a blank into a beautiful wooden bowl and gain the confidence needed to start a new hobby! Crafting an End Table from Repurposed Woods
Join us for an exciting new course led by woodworker Tony Hashem! This hands-on, two-session workshop offers a unique opportunity to craft a beautifully designed end table with shelves using repurposed pallets and a variety of fine woods. Under Tony’s guidance, you’ll create a timeless, visually stunning piece that can be cherished for years to come. Students will have the chance to select from a wide range of new and repurposed woods, including maple, oak, poplar, and pine, to personalize their project. For added customization, you’re welcome to bring your own wood for the table’s top shelf, while the structure and remaining shelves will be crafted from durable pine. The finished table will measure approximately 18" x 10" x 30", but students can adjust the dimensions within reason to ensure a perfect fit for their space. This course is designed for those with some prior experience using power tools, particularly power saws, as the process will involve measuring, cutting, gluing, drilling, and clamping. All materials and tools are provided, so you can focus on honing your skills and creating a functional, one-of-a-kind piece.
