Intro to Crochet: Triangle Scarf or Bandana
This course will cover the basics of starting a project, beginning level stitches, and how to read a crochet pattern. We will learn what different gauges of yarn mean, and will crochet either a triangle scarf, shawl, or bandana. You can decide which one you would like to complete. You will likely need to crochet outside of class time in order to complete the project. For students aged 13 and older. Students aged 10-12 are welcome to join with a caregiver who is also registered. Please plan to purchase the following supplies ahead of time and bring them to the first class (the instructor's, Devon's, notes are in italics): Each student will need to bring at least one skein/ball/or cake of yarn. I recommend multiple if you would like your project to be multiple colors. The easiest yarn for beginners is a classic acrylic yarn, like this example. Caron or Lion Brand also have similar options. If you would rather work with natural fibers, you can also purchase wool or cotton yarn, however cotton yarn can be difficult to work with. Ideally, please select a light or medium weight yarn. A crochet hook. The yarn you purchase will also list the size hook that should be used with it; this blog post also has a helpful chart. I recommend using an aluminum crochet hook as the plastic ones can bend/break which is very frustrating. There are ergonomic hooks like this one, or just a simple aluminum hook like this one. You will also need scissors which you may have at home already. Just be sure they are sharp, they do not need to be very large. If you plan to purchase scissors, I recommend craft scissors like these. You will also need a tapestry needle like this pack. For tapestry needles, I do find the plastic ones are easier to work with, but that is a personal preference between plastic and metal.

Full-body Strength Training for Beginners & Advanced Beginners
This class will offer full-body strength training for adults with little or no experience with weight lifting. Emphasis will be on safe, effective exercises appropriate for any level of fitness. Participants will be instructed and guided on all exercises with commitment to having each person understand the purpose and intention of the exercise, and know how to make it harder or gentler depending on the needs of the individual. Participants will be able to ask all the questions they want to develop their understanding of the principles of fitness. We will navigate around injuries and chronic conditions that need TLC. Classes will begin with a warm-up and end with a gentle stretch. Please bring a mat, a set of dumbbells (between 5 and 10 pounds depending on personal preference), and an exercise band (a long single band similar to what's in the photo) to class, along with water. Wear clothes that are comfortable for movement and exercise. "Heather was a wonderful instructor- so full of energy and information! This class was great for learning the basics and how to incorporate a strength training and exercise program into your life. She was responsive to questions and focused on the class being for and about the participants and their needs and offering modifications to exercises as needed. I’d love to see more classes taught by her!" "I have worked with personal trainers and physical therapist for years. Heather's knowledge and instruction is spot-on. In addition, Heather is so personable and she makes the program fun and enjoyable. I looked forward to this class every week. I would recommend this class to anyone, any age, who wants to learn good technique and make lasting changes in staying fit."
