Singing By Ear: Focus on Harmony
Singing ‘a cappella’ or unaccompanied is a great way to improve your musical ‘ear’ for melody and harmony. In this class you will learn to harmonize ‘by ear’ using simple melodies, rounds and music made up in the moment. We will learn and sing musical intervals to understand harmonic structure, improve pitch and to learn and memorize melodies more quickly. In every class there will be exercises for more vocal flexibility and ease in your singing and to strengthen the relationship between your voice and body. As part of this class there will be two classes focused on Circle-Singing (developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators) where leaders create songs in the moment using melodic patterns, percussive sounds, and harmony. These two classes will be open to the broader public as well. For singers who can match pitch. Please contact Jody at jjalbright58@gmail.com if you have any questions. This class will meet inside CVU.

Conversational Italian (Intermediate to Advanced) - ONLINE
Benvenuti in Italia! “Conversational Italian” is dedicated to your needs and wants in this beautiful language. For this reason, the preliminary assignment for the first class is for you to prepare a realistic list of things you would like to learn given the number of sessions we will have. This is the ideal equation: Beginning of class + End of class = I learned what I wanted to know! If you wish the class to be conducted in Italian or have a hybrid approach (Italian and English) you must all agree to this for obvious reasons. Having a hybrid approach is beneficial and Cinzia will explain her philosophy in this regard. Not sure what level of Italian you are at? No problem! Sign-up and decide after the first class if this will meet your needs. This is an online class. A Zoom or Google Meet invitation will be emailed prior to the start date. All handouts will be emailed directly from the instructor.

Circle-Singing Workshop
Circle Singing is a community singing and sounding practice, spontaneous and evolving — like a drum circle for voices. Based on practices developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators, Circle Singing is a supportive, judgment-free space to play with your voice. The leader creates songs in the moment — patterns, percussive sounds, rhythms, harmonies, melodies, — and teaches the parts orally to the rest of the group. The parts layer together into completely original compositions, each song a unique creation, never sung before, never to be sung again. It's a very playful, community singing experience. All voices are welcome! Feel free to contact Jody at jjalbright58@gmail.com if you have any questions. This class will meet inside CVU.
