Riveting Basics: Silver Pendant
Join fine local jewelry maker, Jolynn Santiago, and learn how to make a beautiful piece of jewelry to wear of gift. Riveting is a process where two or more pieces of metal are connected without heat. There are several types of rivets. This class focuses on the basic rivet; a metal pin with a shank and two nail heads that holds two or more pieces of metal together. Once the basic rivet is secured with a hammer, the parts are permanently immobilized. In this class, students will create a sterling silver pendant. In addition to riveting, students will learn how to saw using a jeweler’s saw, file, sand, anneal (soften metal), apply texture and patina. On the last day of class, we will discuss the students’ finished projects as a group. We’ll also discuss creating a setup for those who wish to continue practicing their riveting skills at home. Students will leave this class with handmade jewelry, a better understanding of basic riveting, the resources needed to order the proper materials and the knowledge to create a small riveting set-up of their own.All materials, and tools for use during class are included in the fee. All levels are welcome!(Photos are examples of designs using the riveting process)

Galettes and Crepes
The term ‘galette’ has become popular in American desserts. Fruit tarts baked without a tin, folding the crust from the bottom over the filling to create a flat and rustic pie. But go to France and you'll discover the word all over different menus, referring to everything from cakes to pies, crepes to cookies. Different regions around the country use the word differently, and for this class we'll be travelling to the north-west of France, to Brittany, where a galette means a flat, buckwheat crepe filled with something savory and comforting. The Galette Bretonnes is popular fare all over France, and there are restaurants dedicated to serving only this unsophisticated dish for lunch and dinner. In this class you'll learn how to make this quick and easy meal, along with several fillings, from the classic ham and egg, to the Galette à la Florentine. And we shall not neglect the Galette's smaller, sweeter, and more popular cousin, the ubiquitous crepe. Along with crepes for dessert we'll learn to make our own Nutella, classic fruit filling and crepes suzette. If you love making French food but only have time in your busy day for a quick lunch (plus dessert!) this class is for you! Together, the galette and crepe make a complete, and delicious, meal. This is a participatory cooking class. A small group of 3-4 students will work together at each cooking station to complete the recipes on the night's menu. Please arrive 5-minutes early for a prompt start. Thank you! This class is generously sponsored by City Market:

Conversational Italian for Intermediate to Advanced Learners - ONLINE
Benvenuti in Italia! “Conversational Italian” is dedicated to your needs and wants in this beautiful language. For this reason, the preliminary assignment for the first class is for you to prepare a realistic list of things you would like to learn given the number of sessions we will have. This is the ideal equation: Beginning of class + End of class = I learned what I wanted to know! If you wish the class to be conducted in Italian or have a hybrid approach (Italian and English) you must all agree to this for obvious reasons. Having a hybrid approach is beneficial and Cinzia will explain her philosophy in this regard. Not sure what level of Italian you are at? No problem! Sign-up and decide after the first class if this will meet your needs. This is an online class. A Zoom or Google Meet invitation will be emailed prior to the start date. All handouts will be emailed directly from the instructor. "I have taken this online Italian conversation course with Cinzia for three years, and it is a great touch-point every week to practice the language and even meet new friends in Vermont who also have an interest in the language. Some of these friendships from the online class have transitioned into real life friendships, as we continue to meet after the class is over to practice Italian together!" "I really enjoy these classes with Cinzia. They provide an opportunity to practice Italian in an informal, friendly and chatty atmosphere. Cinzia sends materials between classes but homework is more or less at the individual's discretion. It helps me keep on my Italian and especially practice my listening and speaking skills with a native speaker. Cinzia is funny, warm, and great at teaching colloquial details."

Sing Your Heart Out- More!
We had so much fun in this class this fall that I’m offering it again for those who took it and want to explore further, and for other experienced singers who missed it and are interested! There are many ways singers can benefit from improvising, such as expanding their range and sound qualities, gaining confidence in their singing and discovering their musical creativity. We will explore vocal improvisation through a variety of methods including Circle-Singing (developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators) where we create songs in the moment using melodic patterns, percussive sounds, harmonies, and more, ‘Vocal River’ exercises developed by Rhiannon which include sound with movement, call and response, and many more solo as well as ensemble practices. This semester we will also explore the 12-bar blues form as another improvisational tool. This will be a safe, supportive environment where you will learn new musical vocabulary, take risks, and have fun playing with your voice! Questions? - e-mail Jody at jjalbright58@gmail.com.

Circle-Singing Workshop
Based on practices developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators, Circle Singing is a supportive, judgment-free space to sing with others without having to read music. Leaders create songs in the moment — patterns, percussive sounds, rhythms, harmonies, melodies — and teach the parts orally to the rest of the group. The parts layer together into completely original compositions, each song a unique creation, never sung before, never to be sung again. Jody will lead the group singing and will also teach different aspects of how to create an improvised ‘song’ for singers who want an opportunity to lead. There will be no pressure to lead if you don’t feel ready! It's a playful, joyful community singing experience. All voices are welcome! Feel free to contact Jody at jjalbright58@gmail.com if you have any questions.
