Mixed Level Hand-building and Wheel-Throwing Wednesdays with Lisa Bresler- 10 weeks!
If you are just beginning your journey in pottery, or if you have some experience and want to learn more while you work independently, then join artist, Lisa Bresler on Wednesdays and get ready to create! During these 10-weeks you will learn new pottery skills, refine your techniques, and create beautiful ceramics with as much instruction as you need. Focus will be mostly on wheel throwing, but for those that prefer hand-building you will have all the support you need! At the CVU ceramics studio, we offer and welcome a fun and judgement-free collaborative environment for potters of all levels. Only 10 spots available!Students will have access to stoneware, mid-fire clay, Cone 6. All clay, glazes (brushed and dipped), use of the studio, tools, as well as firing costs are included in the fee. NOTE: Only the provided glazes and clay are allowed in the studio.BONUS: Free access to "Open Studio" on Monday evenings 5pm-8pm starting Sept 29-Jan 5. No open studio on 11/24 or 12/29. Recommended minimum age: High School.

American Sign Language (ASL) for Beginners Level 1
MUSIC & LANGUAGES
Are you motivated to learn SIGN language? ASL is the visual gestural language used by the Deaf community. It has its own unique grammar, sentence structure, and facial expressions. This class is for anyone that is new to ASL or looking for a refresher. Don is part of the deaf community and promises this immersive class will be fun and filled with plenty of conversation as well as practical exercises. In the first class, we will have an interpreter to help communicate the class syllabus. In these 9-sessions, you will learn about Deaf culture and how to communicate with basic introductions, numbers, alphabets, colors, food, people, places, restaurants, geography, etc. Handouts and videos will also be introduced weekly to help reinforce your newly learned skills. Some homework will be assigned to help you progress with ease. Recommended minimum age: High School Note: ASL 2 will be offered in Spring 2026. "Don brings real world use of ASL, facial expressions and deaf culture to communicate with deaf individuals that goes beyond simple words in ASL."

An Evening of Chinese Food

Spend an enjoyable evening with Evelyn as you explore the art of creating delicious noodle dishes, beginning with a classic favorite: Chicken and Shrimp Lo Mein. In this hands-on class, you’ll discover the variety of ingredients that can be used to build flavor and texture in lo mein, as well as learn about different noodle types and easy alternatives you can use at home. Evelyn will guide you through techniques that make this dish both approachable and versatile, giving you confidence to recreate it in your own kitchen. To end the evening on a sweet note, you’ll prepare Mango Sago Pomelo Pudding—a refreshing dessert that originated in Hong Kong and has become a modern Asian favorite. This creamy, fruity treat combines the brightness of mango with the delicate textures of sago pearls and pomelo. Along the way, you’ll learn how to properly handle and prepare these delicate ingredients to achieve the perfect balance of flavors and consistency. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced home cook, this class is designed to expand your skills while treating you to a delicious cultural experience. This is a participatory cooking class. An Evening of Japanese Food

Join Evelyn for a flavorful evening learning to make two Japanese-inspired favorites: Katsudon and a no-bake Matcha Tiramisu. The class begins with Katsudon, a comforting rice bowl topped with golden, crispy pork cutlet simmered in a savory-sweet sauce. Along the way, Evelyn will share the origins of pork katsu and demonstrate a special technique to achieve a perfectly crisp cutlet—without the usual kitchen mess or splattering oil that frying often brings. This method will make it easier and more enjoyable to recreate the dish at home. To round out the evening, you’ll prepare a Japanese twist on a classic Italian dessert: no-bake Matcha Tiramisu. Using clever substitutions, Evelyn will guide you through a simple yet elegant recipe that highlights the earthy richness of matcha. The result is a dessert that is not only light and refreshing but also a true crowd-pleaser, perfect for sharing during holidays or special occasions. Beautiful Barn Quilts 24" X 24"

Come learn how to make your very own beautiful wooden barn quilt from scratch! The size will be 2’x2’ (that’s feet!). They look great just about anywhere and make awesome gifts for both inside or outside your home and of course on a barn! We will learn the steps to design and paint a geometric pattern, learn how to lay out and measure the layout and review colors. Between classes you will need to work on your quilt at home since each layer takes time to dry before being taped again. Choose your own design and identify colors at the first class. Choux Pastry: From Savory to Sweet
COOKING & BAKING
The exquisite éclair. The classic profiterole. The addictive gougère. All of these famous French snacks have something in common; they’re made from choux pastry. The strange, gummy dough resulting from water, flour and eggs mixed together and cooked twice creates a wonderfully airy and crunchy casing begging to be filled with chocolate, pastry cream, cheese or anything the heart desires. These wonders of the pastry art can seem as daunting as building a croquembouche, but with practice and the right technique, delicious crunchy treats are only an oven away. Learn how to perfect your choux dough and assemble classic pastries, how to use craquelin to make your creations even crunchier, and practice famous fillings such as crème légèar, beurre au chocolate, and of course cheese. Join us for an evening of choux pastry delight and bring home the joys of a French Patisserie to your own home kitchen. This is a participatory cooking class. Gelli Plate Printing

Come enjoy a night of learning how to use Gelli plates to create beautiful prints on paper, canvas, and card stock! This technique allows you to make monoprints without the need for a large, expensive press. Just roll a thin layer of water-based paint over the gelli plate, layer your collage, and transfer the print! Take home many wonderful prints to use creatively on home projects such as wrapping paper, greeting cards, gift tags or a gorgeous artistic collage to frame. Lisa will show you the many crafts you can make using this creative medium. All materials to use during class are included in the fee, but feel free to bring your own fabric or papers. Bring an apron and wear clothes you don't mind getting painted! This will be a fun and lively class. No experience necessary! Have a Gelli plate design in mind? Getting to Know Google's Helpful Tools

Google is one of the most used and useful platforms available in the digital world today. If you use Gmail, a Google Calendar, or need help with better understanding how to share documents using Google Docs, and navigate Google Sheets, then this course is for you. Emmy Hilliard of Grow Digital Skills, www.growdigitalskills.org, will show you how to optimize Google apps and use them more efficiently in this 2-session course. You are welcome to bring an iPad, laptop, or tablet, as well as a charger. Classroom computers will also be available for all to use. 1. Mastering Gmail and Google Calendar 2. Great Beginnings: Getting Your First Few Chapters Publication Ready - ONLINE

You know you’ve got a great story idea, but how do you make it so great that it rises from slush pile to publication? Author and Writing Coach Annalisa Parent has helped hundreds of writers to improve their craft and to become published authors. She knows the inside tricks to get your writing publication-ready. In this workshop, she will walk you through a straightforward system for plotting your fiction to ensure you write a book that makes readers say “I couldn’t put it down" and the steps necessary to pace your first five pages of your manuscript to catch an agent's/publisher's interest. She will cover important topics such as: How and when should you use backstory? Where is the best point in the narrative to start? What is the most effective build to the climax? You’ll walk away with a bucket load of information and resources to keep and put to action, so you can cross “Become an Author” off your bucket list. This class will meet online via Zoom or Google Meet. You will receive an email prior to the start date of your class with information on how to participate.

During this one-night course, Fia will teach you the basic properties of oil painting and color application. Using only a palette knife, you will create a modern round impressionist-style painting, "Midnight Garden" Grab a friend for this fun evening and take home a masterpiece! All materials, including oil paints, are included in the fee. Please bring a box or container to transport your masterpiece as oil paints take a long time to dry. Introduction to Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, and Engraving

Have you ever been curious about how to use CAD software to design and model an idea? Or, how to set up and use a 3D printer and/or laser cutter/engraver to bring those ideas to reality? Join Andrew Scott, one of CVU’s Design and Engineering Technology teachers, in exploration of the CVU Design Lab and learn a new hobby and even start a business! During this 4-session course we will explore how to approach basic modeling skills to design and fabricate at least one project using the 3D printer and one using the laser cutter/engraver. Possible projects may include a holiday-themed decoration, cookie cutter, and ornament or set of wooden coasters. All materials and access to CAD software are included in the fee. Requirements/Restrictions: Fluency with basic computer interface and usage tools. Want to learn more about Vermont cheese? Join Amy, an expert in food and beverage tasting, and taste your way through five different styles of cheese made in Vermont. You’ll start by discussing the difference between taste and flavor, helping you learn to describe what you experience during our tasting. For each cheese, we’ll explore the type of milk used, its production location, techniques, and where to buy it locally. Amy will provide resources, including books and a list of local shops, so you can continue enjoying Vermont cheese after our tasting. Amy wants to make the world of artisanal cheese accessible to everyone.
