Trio of Mini Floral Wreaths
Join Betsy Orvis of Rock Meadow Farm in creating a trio of mini everlasting wreaths, featuring grapevine wreaths adorned with dried flowers and foliage grown on her farm. With a wide variety of colors and textures to choose from, you'll be able to create long lasting decorations to bring beauty and brightness into your home (or to gift) as we head into the holiday season. Feel free to bring your own special items to include in your arrangement. Kids 12 and older are welcome on their own; younger kids can come with an adult. All materials included. You are invited to bring your own glue gun; a selection will also be available.

Mixed Level Hand-building and Wheel-Throwing Wednesdays with Lisa Bresler- 10 weeks!
If you are just beginning your journey in pottery, or if you have some experience and want to learn more while you work independently, then join artist, Lisa Bresler on Wednesdays and get ready to create! During these 10-weeks you will learn new pottery skills, refine your techniques, and create beautiful ceramics with as much instruction as you need. Focus will be mostly on wheel throwing, but for those that prefer hand-building you will have all the support you need! At the CVU ceramics studio, we offer and welcome a fun and judgement-free collaborative environment for potters of all levels. Only 10 spots available!Students will have access to stoneware, mid-fire clay, Cone 6. All clay, glazes (brushed and dipped), use of the studio, tools, as well as firing costs are included in the fee. Jewelry Metalsmithing: Textured Silver Ring

Join fine local jewelry maker, Jolynn Santiago, and learn how to make a beautiful piece of jewelry to wear of gift. Over the course of-4 sessions, you will learn the basics of jewelry making and maybe leave with not only a beautiful ring, but also new hobby! Rings can be fabricated using wire and sheet. In this class, students will be using a sterling silver sheet to make a ring band that is 4mm or wider. First, we will use hammers and other tools to create interesting and unique textures. Once the band is textured, we’ll being designing and shaping the ring band. Then, we will saw and pierce the ring using a jeweler’s saw. Finally, students will anneal (soften), form, solder, shape, patina, and polish the rings. Depending on the complexity of the project, students may have the opportunity to make a silver ring out of wire as well! All materials, silver, and tools for use during class are included in the fee. Learn How to Turn a Wooden Bowl!

Join Andrew Duling, a professional wood turner, to make your first hardwood bowl! Each participant will receive a hardwood blank and have their own lathe to use during class. Learn how to use and work safely on a lathe. Turn a blank into a beautiful wooden bowl and gain the confidence needed to start a new hobby! Safety practices, proper tool use, and properties of wood will be covered. All materials and use of equipment included in the fee. Bring safety eye goggles and wear closed toed shoes. No loose clothing! Wear your hair tied back or wear a hat. Appropriate for high-school aged students and older. Lunar New Year: Malaysian Traditions

Celebrate the joy and traditions of the Lunar New Year with Evelyn in this engaging and flavorful cooking class. The evening begins with Yee Sang, also known as the prosperity tossed salad—a vibrant and symbolic dish popular in Malaysia and other parts of Southeast Asia. Evelyn will guide you through the colorful array of ingredients that make up this festive salad, each carrying its own special meaning of abundance, health, and good fortune. Together, you’ll learn how to prepare and assemble Yee Sang before joining in the fun tradition of tossing it high for prosperity. To finish the evening on a sweet note, you’ll enjoy Taiwanese baked mochi, made with coconut milk for a rich and chewy texture. This comforting treat pairs beautifully with the celebration, offering a taste of another cherished Asian tradition. Throughout the class, Evelyn will share captivating stories about Lunar New Year customs, exploring how different cultures across Asia celebrate with unique foods, rituals, and delicacies. Whether you’re curious about the traditions or simply love trying new dishes, this class promises an evening filled with culture, flavor, and festive cheer. This is a participatory cooking class. Mixed Level Wheel Throwing Tuesdays with Ryan Strobel- 12 weeks!

If you are just beginning your wheel throwing journey, or if you have some experience, but want to learn more while you work independently, then join us for Mixed Level Wheel Throwing with veteran potter of 20 years, and high school ceramics teacher, Ryan Strobel. During these 12-weeks you will discover the art of pottery wheel throwing in this engaging mixed-level class, perfect for beginners and experienced potters alike. Moving Beyond Automatic Settings With Your Digital Camera
PHOTOGRAPHY, TECHNOLOGY, & DIGITAL SKILLS
This 2-session course will introduce students to their DSLR’s priority and full manual modes. By learning how and when to use each mode, students will gain greater creative control over their cameras. More advanced composition concepts will also be discussed based on students questions, levels and experience. Students will need to have a DSLR, mirrorless, or fixed lens camera capable of aperture and shutter priority and full manual modes. Long exposure and light painting will require a tripod. Session 1: This class will explain the exposure triangle and how to set exposure. Students will be introduced to and encouraged to explore of their camera’s priority modes. Needle Felted Holiday Gnome

Join Molly Hall to create a festive holiday gnome using needle felting techniques & cut fabric. In this class, participants will be guided through the steps of needle felting wool to create a cute decorative gnome. In this workshop you will learn: Overview of needle felting tools & materials. How to create dimension & shape. Add decorative embellishments with a hot glue gun. All materials included. Each participant will go home with one needle felted gnome. Felting is a great way to unwind and encourage your creativity – come have some fun! No experience necessary! For ages 9 and above. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered. Needle felting requires the use of very sharp needles & manual dexterity. Needle-Felted Holiday Ornaments
ARTS & CRAFTS
Come learn the art of needle felting and create a two-dimensional wool sculpture using a special barbed needle. We will use cookie cutters to help create a fun holiday shape (trees, candy canes, etc.). Add a pin to turn your design into a brooch, or add some string to create a hanging ornament. Needles, wool roving, cookie cutters, and other felting materials will be provided. No experience necessary. Ages 14 and up. Students aged 10-13 are welcome with a caregiver who should also register for the class.

Next Steps in Knitting – Knit a Cozy Hat

Join us for this fun, informative class to learn how to knit a hat! You will learn to Cast On, Knit, Purl, Decrease, and Bind Off. We will talk about yarn, needles, gauge, tools of the trade, and pattern reading. Hats are fun to knit and wear, plus they make great handmade gifts. If you’ve done a bit of knitting before, this class is just the thing to take you through the next steps in your journey! Required Materials: Yarn: 145 - 200 Yards of #5 Bulky Weight Yarn (Berroco Ultra Wool Chunky or similar) Knitting Needles: US 10 or 10.5 16” Circular Needle (to start knitting the ribbing of the hat), US 10 or 10.5 Double Pointed Needles (to decrease for the crown of the hat) Other Tools: Darning Needle, Stitch Marker (or scrap yarn), scissors Optional Materials (if you want to add a pompom): Yarn: 10-20 yards matching or contrasting yarn for pompom (this can be any weight yarn and is a fun way to use up scraps!) Oil Painting for Intermediate to Advanced Painters

Join us as we discover best practices for figurative and scenic painting while having fun and connecting with other artists. Each session we will be examining two or more fundamental techniques, and we will each have a hand picked subject to work on: either figurative or scenic. Students will learn the Frank Reilly Palette for portrait painting; examine artists like George Bridgman. The first class we will do introductions and the instructor will do a portrait in real time along with the class week to week. Artists are encouraged to paint what they like and to ask questions of each other as well as the instructor as we paint as a group together and dig deeper into what goes into making a fantastic oil painting. This is an upper intermediate class so prior experience with oils is required. Session 1 - Go over tools, materials. Go over Reilly pallet Students will paint on canvas and we will gesso and sand our canvases. We will start our underdrawings. Session 2 - We will continue our underdrawings and finish ideally halfway through the session We will then “ ink ‘ our faces or scenes in a sepia tone raw umber. George Bridgman will be covered during the drawing component of the class. Session 3- We will do a first pass on our faces mixing our paint with Gambol which is a drying medium which also allows the paint to be applied in washes. We will go for an average color that we can see throughout the reference image. Session 4 - We will do the Form Pass in which we paint over our first coat using oil paint with no additives. Fat over lean will be covered and why we adhere to the Fat over Lean rule. Students are encouraged to view the room! Session 5 - We will continue to work on our faces, or scenes. Students are encouraged to continue to network and share ideas and approaches. Students, please bring your own painting materials together with photos, objects, or ideas of what you want to explore in paint. Table top easels are available for use during class. (Note: Only odorless solvents are allowed in the CVU building such as Terpenoid or Gamsol) Recommended age: 18+

Open Lathe Workshop II -Bowl Turning with Eddie!

This is an open studio style, 10-session workshop, designed for those that have taken the Access Bowl Turning Workshop with Eddie previously OR those that feel comfortable in a woodworking shop and can use a lathe independently. With a small class size, this allows each student to work on their own lathe while Eddie supervises and helps wood bowl turners as needed. Blanks will be available to purchase ($10 each- cash), or BYO wood blanks. Want to buy your own gouge? Contact us for recommendations. Wear closed toed shoes, hat (hair tied back), and bring your own protective eye wear/goggles. No loose clothing or accessories! "Eddie and this class was just the bowl-turning experience I was looking for. I’d had some prior turning instruction and time on the lathe, but with Eddie I was able to work semi-independently, make my own errors, ask for advice and really progress. Join us as we dive into the principles of permaculture and learn how to design ways of living that have the stability and resiliency of natural systems. In this class we focus on positive solutions for creating and managing systems for food, medicine, water, shelter, and more. Permaculture is a multi-disciplinary art form, drawing from the physical sciences, architecture, nutrition, the healing arts, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), and spirituality. The ethical underpinnings that guide permaculture are simple yet powerful: take care of earth, take care of the people, and share the surplus. Planning Photoshoots with the PhotoPills App - ONLINE

The PhotoPills App is a comprehensive "Swiss Army knife" for photographers, offering extensive tools for planning shoots, including day, night, and astrophotography. Its broad range of tools (or “pills” how they call them) make it very versatile, but also rather intimidating to use for novices. This lecture gives an introduction to the app and guides through several scenarios how to plan photoshoots like aligning a rising full moon with a building or a mountain. Plant Propagation

This practical workshop offers a broad overview of many different types of vegetative (asexual) plant propagation; crown division, root cuttings, scaling, tip layering, softwood and hardwood cuttings. We will discuss which techniques work best for different species and genera. Come learn how to make more grape, currant, hardy kiwi, mulberry, quince, fig, blueberry, honeyberry, seaberry, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, chive, horseradish, mint, lemon balm, comfrey, daylily, true lily, rhubarb, asparagus, sunchoke, rosemary, lavender, oregano, thyme, and many more. Publishing Workshop: The Paths to Publication - ONLINE

Author and Writing Coach Annalisa Parent works closely with publishing industry professionals to get the most current information. She will share with you the ins and outs of publishing today, from self publishing to hybrid to traditional. In this introductory class, you will learn the pros and cons for each publishing avenue. Rest & Rejuvenate Yoga with Heather

Join Heather for a four week series, exploring yoga asana (postures), breathing, and meditation. This class will feature asana to warm you up, with breathing exercises throughout to improve clarity, we will end with a short meditation to help you clear your mind and feel ready for your next day. Feel good in body, mind, and spirit! Give yourself the gift of yoga breathing, movement and meditation as we shift and settle into a New Year. This class is suitable for all levels. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat and any props you enjoy. We'll also have some mats available to borrow.

Slow Flow Afternoon Yoga with Ellen
DANCE, YOGA & MINDFUL MOVEMENT
This yoga class moves slowly and with intention so that the student can focus on being in the present moment. The integration of breath while holding poses for longer periods of time allows students the option to go deeper in a pose or find more softness. Suitable for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. Bring your mat and water bottle, as well as blocks and strap (towel), if available. We will have some yoga mats & blocks available to borrow. Small Market Basket

People in every culture have been crafting beautiful, durable and useful vessels from various materials for thousands of years. Come try this age old tradition and create your very own Market Basket with a wooden handle. This is a 2 part class, suitable for any level of weaver. Using traditional weaving techniques you will create a durable basket for storage, carrying, or a decorative art piece. Students should wear clothing that can get stained and bring an old towel to class. Staining of the fingers and hands will occur when working with pre-stained reed (the stain is all natural and wears off within a couple of days). All quality materials* included. *Participants should bring a pair of rubber gloves or disposable gloves, and a plastic bag to bring the basket home in if they wish to stain their basket.
