Kiss You or Kill You? Writing Your First Romance Novel

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & WRITING WORKSHOPS -
Winter/Spring 2025

Do you love reading romance? Have you ever dreamed of writing your own romance novel? You can! In this 4-week highly interactive series, participants will discover the magic – and the realities - of writing romance in today’s publishing climate. With lots of interactive exercises and take-home materials, we’ll get you started creating lovable characters, compelling plots, and scenes that grab your readers, while also learning about the subgenres, archetypes, tropes, and themes inherent in the current romance market. In-class time will be dedicated to strengthening our plotting and writing muscles as we build a supportive writing community with each other, and after each session, you’ll leave with exercises to do at home. The course is designed to be supportive and inclusive, and participation in all exercises and sharing is optional. Past cohorts of students have continued to meet for months after the course ends, in support of each other’s writing goals, so you may just end up with a new group of friends who will cheer you on as you pursue your own dreams.

Laurel Warren

Laurel Warren is a USA Today ® bestselling author of ten romance novels who lives here in VT, vastly outnumbered by both children and cats. She's a sucker for romantic comedies, popcorn, and the perfect green pen, and she falls head-over-heels for every hero she’s ever written. It’s a problem. Her books are sweet, emotional, and fun, and she can’t wait to share her love of writing with others just starting their own journeys.

What Reviewers Say About Her Books:

  • "An engaging plot, genuine, relatable characters and a sweet yet sexy romance will keep readers turning the pages."
  • "An amazing read with captivating characters and filled with romance."
  • “… weaves an engrossing and uplifting tale of enduring love."
  • “… packs an emotional wallop that's unique and beautiful."

  • “For those readers who prefer romantic yet clean romance stories, this is an adorably sweet, wholesome read worth one’s time. . . . Another wonderful addition to a charming series”
