Carving in Wood - A Comfort Bird

ARTS & CRAFTS -
Winter/Spring 2025

Join long time master carver and woodworker, Bob Lindemann, as he teaches the principals of safely carving wood, using the tools correctly and efficiently, while creating objects to display or use.  Participants will start with a blank and leave with a beautiful comfort bird.  These birds are a handheld gift usually given as an act of kindness or as a comforting token of love.

Option to mount the small bird on a stand with feet and gift one for every friend and family member!

High quality carving knives and chisels available for everyone to use in class. Option to purchase the tools during registration, or after the class for $40.

This class will meet inside CVU.

Robert Lindemann

Bob’s interest in woodcarving began in 1975 after inheriting his grandfathers woodcarving tools, and then teaching himself how to carve. He is also the Secretary, Newsletter and Website Editor for the Green Mountain Woodcarvers, and has taught numerous classes for the Club. He retired recently after 40 years as the Industrial Arts and Design & Technology Instructor at Lamoille Union Middle and High School. He enjoys doing carvings in all styles from Wildfowl to chainsaw carvings. An item of interest is that he has never sold any of his carvings, preferring to give them away as gifts to family and friends. This past fall, while demonstrating at the Shelburne Harvest Festival, he was asked to sell one of his small bear cub carvings and instead invited the person to sign up for an Access Carving Class where they would learn how to create the piece for themselves, and get much more personal satisfaction each time they look at the carving.
