Ideal for first time quilters, in this class we'll sew a simple decorative pillowcase, perfect for that corner of your living room that's been looking a little drab! Using several classic quilt blocks, we'll go through the process of cutting and piecing the block together, tying it into a small quilt top, and then assembling them into the final pillowcase. We'll cover all the required information to make your own full sized quilt, in a much faster, and digestible format!
Sewing machines and quilting tools will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own sewing machine.
Please plan to bring the following to class:
Eric Couture is a queer, interdisciplinary designer and textile artist hailing from the far northern reaches of Vermont. They are particularly interested in the memory of materials and how textiles can be used as recordkeeping devices. With a deep focus on the making process, Eric creates objects meant to be used, loved, destroyed, and mended. In 2024, Eric graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts with a BFA in Graphic Design, with a minor in Craft/Material Studies during which they specialized in textiles and wood. They have taught classes in the command-line interface, quilting, screenprinting, and visible mending at VCUArts (Richmond, VA), Studio Two Three (Richmond, VA) and Berea College Student Craft (Berea, KY) where they were also the Student Craft Fellow in the Weaving Studio.
