Crafting a Charcuterie Board from Repurposed Woods
Join us for a delightful 2-session woodworking experience as we delve into the enchanting world of charcuterie board-making which will become a treasured keepsake, or gift, and topic of discussion! In this hands-on class, you will learn the art of creating visually stunning and unique charcuterie boards that will impress your guests on any occasion. During the workshop, students will choose from a wide variety of new and repurposed fine woods to create a visually stunning piece that can last a lifetime. Prepared woods may include Maple, Ash, Purple Heart, Walnut, Birch, Australian Eucalyptus, Brazilian Cherry, Oak, Coconut Wood, Ipe, and others. All materials are included in the fee for this course. Students will decide on the design they wish to use and choose their woods. Since the wood will be of various thicknesses, students will need to plane them to an equal thickness and then glue and clamp the wood to form the board. Tools used: mitre saw, table saw, planer, and clamps. For the second class, students will sand or plane their glued boards to get a uniform smooth surface. They will then draw and cut their handle design on the board. Tools used: planer, sander, band saw, scroll saw. Lastly, all boards will be sanded, thoroughly cleaned and coated with food-grade oils to penetrate and seal the boards. Extra oil will be given to each student to repeat this process at home. Tools used: Sander.Note: The electric tool usage can create a bottleneck in the shop, so please be patient and use this time to learn and help others during class time. Please bring safety glasses and a dust mask if you have one. We have a small supply on hand. Long hair will need to be tied back and no open toed shoes."Tony is a very dedicated, enthusiastic teacher with a clear love of his craft. He was so generous with his time, often starting class early and always willing to stay late to make sure everyone left with a satisfying product. I recommend his class whole-heartedly!"

Digital Photography Bootcamp
PHOTOGRAPHY, TECHNOLOGY, & DIGITAL SKILLS
Got a digital camera and need a refresher on how to optimize photos using the different functions? In this 4-session course, we will review digital camera functions and how to use them, visual-design and framing considerations, as well as explore some Adobe Photoshop editing skills to bring your photos to life. We will take our camera outside, weather permitting, for a technical and visual exploration around the CVU campus. During registration you will have the opportunity to tell us what you are interested in specifically learning so the instructor can tailor the class to your level and interests. Emphasis will be on each individual student's interests. For novice through intermediate-level photographers. This class will use the CVU in the Photography Lab. Each student will have use of a computer loaded with Adobe Photoshop software. Ages: 16+ "The class was fantastic and Tom’s knowledge and instruction was equally wonderful. Several of us would love to have another class with Tom and told him so!"

Van Conversion Forum for Traveling, Camping and Building- By Donation
COMMUNITY PRESENTERS
Travel in a van conversion is a low-cost and self-contained travel option that appeals to folks comfortable with and excited by the prospect of independent exploration. Whether staying at campgrounds or at “dispersed camping” areas, you can optimize your home-on-wheels to meet your own requirements. Over the course of 4-sessions, we will discuss and share ideas, methods, and experiences. This is great class for anyone interested in van conversions and/or has some experience and is looking for more. Which vehicle is best for conversion? How to plan for a space that will meet your particular needs? Why not buy an RV or a factory van conversion? This forum will take a methodical approach to discussion of needs, priorities, and limitations, including, but not limited to: The Big Tin Can: walls, ceilings, floors, insulation, noise suppression, ventilation. Electricity: solar panels, battery options, charger/inverters, DC/AC wiring, lighting, ventilation, heating. Sleeping: bed and bedding options. Storage: shelving, drawers, dedicated space for bicycles or other specific needs. Cooking: built-in or outside, refrigerator/coolers. Bathroom needs: the most-frequently asked question, no-contest. Camping: What options exist for staying in developed or dispersed areas? "Great to have someone with first hand experience with van conversion and willingness to give a van “tour.” Tom is a highly approachable instructor. Generous with his time and sharing of his experiences. Thank you for offering this forum style class!" Thomas Brennan has travelled throughout the U.S. and Canada over the past six years in a 2018 Ram Promaster. This course is offered by donation. Your donation to community education helps sustain, grow, and improve our program. Your kind contribution keeps class fees affordable and accessible to all. Thank you!
