Weaving an Adirondack Pack Basket
In this fabulous course, participants will weave and outfit their own Adirondack Pack Basket! The pack basket is carried on a person's back using fitted straps. The Adirondack Pack Basket is perfect for foraging, fishing, picnics, camping and much more. The pack basket will be made out of sustainably harvested reed and will last for years to come. All other materials will be responsibly sourced. This class will require 4-sessions for completion. Come and learn a new craft and take home an heirloom to keep or gift!All high-quality materials included. Feel free to bring a special strap or belt if you want to personalize your basket. Gentle Evening Yoga with Ellen
This gentle yoga class is a meditative, fluid, and soothing class suitable for all levels. Students will experience slow movements to warm the body and release stress and muscular tension, breathing techniques to support the nervous system, and simple postures to help build strength and stability. Introduction to Welding Fabrication I
ARTS & CRAFTS
This technical hands-on course is designed for those with no welding experience, as well as those who want to improve their skills and learn how to weld using proper methods. The course will cover welding of carbon steel using Oxy-Acetylene torches, SMAW (arc or stick welding), GMAW (MIG or wirefeed welding) and GTAW (TIG welding). Welding of stainless steel and aluminum can be covered as students progress in their abilities. Oxy-Fuel cutting and plasma cutting will also be introduced during the course. There will be the option to weld a small project of your own during the class. All equipment and consumable materials are included in the fee. Recommendations and Requirements: Students must always wear safety toe leather boots, cotton pants and long sleeved cotton shirts. Turtlenecks are recommended for shirt type. All apparel should not have any holes or frays. Students should consider purchasing their own PPE prior to class, such as safety glasses, ear plugs, and welders caps. Students can purchase welding PPE locally at either Haun Welding Supply or Airgas, which are both in Williston, VT. Mention you are a taking an Access class for 10% off! The shop has welding PPE to borrow, but it may not fit properly and is used a fair amount by all students. Minimum age requirement: 16+ "The welding class was terrific, and the instructor Wes was truly passionate about his craft. I went into the session knowing nothing, and walked out five courses later having learned four different welding styles, and I even completed a couple of projects on my own. Pottery Wheel for Beginners- 10 weeks!

Have you always wanted to try your hand at the pottery wheel, especially after watching that scene with Demi Moore in Ghost, 34 years ago? Well, this is your chance to get your hands dirty, and create some beautiful pieces of pottery in this 10-week, beginner and judgement-free class. Only 10 spots available! Jessica LaBonte, owner of Cedar Tree Pottery, will teach you the techniques on how to make the two basic forms- the bowl and the cylinder. You will also have the opportunity to mix your colors and practice decorating and finishing techniques using our extensive glaze options. Students will each receive one 25lb bag of stoneware, mid-fire clay, cone 6. Access to all stocked glazes, dipping, and tools to use during class. NOTE: Only studio glazes will be allowed. All clay, glazes, use of the studio, tools, as well as firing costs are included in the fee. BONUS: Free access to "Open Studio" is on Monday evenings 5pm-8pm starting 9/23-12/16. Pottery with Supervision- 12 weeks, PLUS Open Studio!

This is open to those who have previously taken pottery at Access, or for those who are experienced potters and want access to a pottery studio. With access to the CVU pottery studio, you will have dedicated time, storage, and supplies to work independently on throwing or slab projects. A supervisor will be on hand to help field questions, introduce you to the studio, review processes, communicate requests, and run the kiln. Only 10 spots available! In this judgement-free environment, students will be encouraged to connect with fellow potters to continue to learn new techniques while expanding on your independent pottery practice. Each student will each receive one 25lb bag of stoneware, mid-fire clay, cone 6, access to all stocked glazes, dipping, and tools to use during class. NOTE: Only studio glazes and clay will be allowed. All clay, glazes, use of the studio, tools, as well as firing costs are included in the fee. Watercolor Studio with Ginny Joyner

With 35 hours of instruction and 14 sessions, Ginny will supervise this studio style class and help you master your watercolor techniques! Improve your color palette and brush techniques as you work on more challenging class projects as well as your own projects. Each 2.5 hour session will take place in the visual art space at CVU. This course is designed for artists who have taken watercolor classes previously and are comfortable working independently. Some guided instruction and supervision will be available as you progress throughout this course. This is also great class to connect, gather and learn from other watercolor enthusiasts within our artistic community! Please bring your own watercolor paint, brushes, and paper to class. Working in Stained Glass with John Boyd

We are excited to introduce Stained Glass this year as a new course offering at the ACCESS program! Students will learn how to create a stained glass design that is uniquely their own. Bring in a photo or picture for inspiration! Option to choose from a from existing patterns will also be available. During this 6-week course, John will guide you through the nuances of design, glass cutting, shaping, and assembly using the copper foil method. Leave with a new skill or hobby, and a vibrant stained glass panel to keep or gift! All materials and tools will be provided and are included in the fee. This class is for beginners that are interested in learning the design process, as well as intermediate levels with some experience. Age requirement: 18+. Requirement: Closed-toe shoes and Pants. Open Lathe Workshop -Bowl Turning with Eddie!

This is an open studio style, 10-session workshop, designed for those that have some bowl turning experience and feel comfortable in a woodworking shop and using a lathe. With a small class size of 6, this allows each student to work on their own lathe while Eddie supervises and helps guide novice wood bowl turners. Blanks will be available to purchase ($10 each- cash), or BYO wood blanks. Want to buy your own gouge? Contact us for recommendations. Wear closed toed shoes, hat (hair tied back), and bring your own protective eye wear/goggles. No loose clothing or accessories! Intro to Oil Painting- All Levels Welcome!

In this intro to oil painting we will explore the many techniques of working with this beautiful medium to create landscapes as well as imaginative subject matter. The basics of oil painting will cover value, shape language, and color. This class is designed for students of all skill levels! The class will focus on landscapes, and students will work independently on their own subject matter. Bring a photo or picture to the first class. The goal of this class is to foster a love and respect for painting with oil paints while teaching students the basics of picture-making. Students will pick a subject matter they want to paint, either imaginative or physical, and the instructor will help the student learn best practices and techniques using the right tools and paints. Stained Glass for Beginners with Charlotte Sylvester

We are excited to introduce Stained Glass this year as a new course offering at the ACCESS program! Charlotte Sylvester has been practicing stained glass since 2020 and is looking forward to guiding you through the process from start to finish. During this 5-session course, students will learn the fundamentals of the Copper Foil Method, and create one stained glass suncatcher, approx 6"x 8", to cherish or gift. Choose an entry level "cartoon" or template in the shape of a Sun, Hummingbird, or Lotus Flower, and learn the nuances of glass cutting, shaping, grinding and soldering with copper foil. All materials and tools will provided for use during this course, and are included in the fee. Please join us in this exciting adventure as we discover the beauty of stained glass! This class is for beginners or intermediate levels, age requirement: 18+. Introduction to Surface Embroidery

During this 4-week course, students will learn basic surface embroidery stitches: cross, stem, lazy daisy, French knots, running, blanket, and satin stitches. Classes are designed to allow for individualized instruction as well as time to practice and refine stitching technique. Students will be embroidering a variety of items including: a breadbasket cloth and a table runner. Students should come prepared with scissors. Watercolor for Beginners 2

Watercolor 2 continues your foundational skill-building in mixing colors, layering washes, and design composition. If you have some knowledge of watercolor, but want to "brush" up on you skills then this 10 session (20 hour) course is for you! Ginny will use guided photos and content for this class. If you would prefer to use your own projects, that is possible as well, or you can join Watercolor Studio on Wed evenings. All ages and levels welcome! Quality materials are important in watercolor and we can supply you with brushes to keep and a reasonable amount of paint and paper. If you need a supply kit (valued at $75), please choose the option, "Including Supply Kit," when registering. This class will meet inside CVU. Introduction to Crochet: Decorative Pumpkin

This class is appropriate for those brand new to crochet or those who have done it in the past and need a refresher of the basics. Learn the most common crochet stitches, how to choose the appropriate hook and yarn for a project, and beginning pattern reading. As a mostly self-taught crocheter, Kelly will also share the many free resources that you can use to jumpstart your crochet journey. By the end of the classes, you will have a 3 dimensional crochet pumpkin! For students aged 13 and older. Supplies Needed: One skein of WORSTED weight acrylic yarn in a pumpkiny color of your choice (NOT black). Big Twist Value (JoAnn's), Loops and Thread Classic (Michael's), or Red Heart Super Saver are all great basic and inexpensive brands. A 5 or 5.5 MM Crochet Hook. These are also called H/8 or I/9 in US terms. A set like this one is a great thing to start with so you can try out different sizes. You can also find individual hooks at craft stores or online. A small pair of craft scissors would be helpful to have, but no need to buy new- we will have extras for you to borrow. This class will take place inside CVU.

In this introduction to watercolor painting, this is a 10 session (20 hours) will promise to give you the skills required to enjoy watercolor as your new loved hobby! Learn the foundations of this versatile and creative medium: Design layouts, color palettes, composition, texture, and light will all be covered. Ginny Joyner, a professional watercolor illustrator, leads everyone through exercises designed to explore the many techniques associated with watercolor. No previous art experience required. Fused Glass Small Plate Set

Come to this workshop to learn about fused glass and make your own set of small decorative plates while you’re at it. This workshop will include instruction on using hand tools to cut the glass, using a grinder to get the shape you want, and how to make crushed glass (frit) to create your design. All materials are included in the class fee. Micaela will take your finished product after the class and fire them in a glass kiln; your projects will be available for pick-up at CVU a week later. Join Andrew Duling, a professional wood turner, to make your first hardwood bowl! Each participant will receive a hardwood blank and have their own lathe to use during class. Learn how to use and work safely on a lathe. Turn a blank into a beautiful wooden bowl and gain the confidence needed to start a new hobby! Impressionist Palette-Knife Oil Painting- Barn by the Lake!

During this one-night course, Fia will teach you the basic properties of oil painting and color application. Using only a palette knife, you will create a modern impressionist-style painting of a Barn by the Lake! Grab a friend for this fun evening and take home a masterpiece! Oil Painting for Intermediate to Advanced Painters!

Calling all oil painting enthusiasts! This class is a wonderful opportunity for those artists with experience in oil painting who would like to advance their skills as well as enjoy the weekly camaraderie of fellow artists with a keen interest in oil painting. Led by artist, Emily Moore, this 8-week course will elevate your painting skills and color knowledge. The beginning of the first three classes, I will start with a brief presentation of the following topics: Week 1: Color (we will never stop talking about color!) Week 2: Contrast of temperature, value, & size. Week 3: Mark-making & Edges. Weeks 4- 8: As you paint, Emily will walk through the class answering questions and/or giving advice. The last 40 minutes of class we will be a group discussion and observation about each individual piece. “What is working ? What is not working?” Students, please bring your own painting materials together with photos, objects, or ideas of what you want to explore in paint. A comprehensive suggested materials list will be provided at the time of registration. Table top easels are available for use during class. (Note: Only odorless solvents are allowed in the CVU building such as Terpenoid or Gamsol) Recommended age: 18+ This class will take place inside CVU. Decorative Felted Fall Pumpkins

Create three decorative fall pumpkins for you or someone special! In this class, Molly will guide participants through the steps of needle felting pumpkins and adding decorative embellishments. In this workshop you will learn: Overview of needle felting tools & materials. How to create dimension & shape. Add decorative embellishments. Cost includes all materials. Participants will go home with 3 felted pumpkins, as well as a felting needle & foam to continue your felting practice. Beginners welcome! For ages 13 and older. (Children 8+ welcome with a caregiver.) Please be advised that needle felting requires the use of very sharp needles & manual dexterity.

Digital Photography Level II

Digital Photography Level II Course will cover a more advanced camera use techniques and image-editing options. This 4 session course is for those with some prior digital photography experience and for those who wish to increase their understanding of photography and digital editing. Aspects of composition, light, conceptual intention, and emotional response will be discussed using classic images and student work as examples. Students should bring a digital camera to each session. During registration you will have the opportunity to tell us what you are interested in specifically learning so the instructor can tailor the class to your level and interests. Each student will have use of a computer loaded with Adobe editing software. This class will meet at CVU in the Photography Classroom Lab.

Card Making through Creative Collaging

Terri will guide students through her artistic way of creating compositions through collage. She’ll share how to turn this art into greeting cards for any occasion, though it can be a wonderful framed art piece. Follow your inspiration! This is an art class. Welding Fabrication II- Intermediate to Advanced

The focus of this course will be attaining proficiency in welding the three standard joints (butt, lap and T) using all three major processes. Out of position welding will be strongly encouraged. All equipment and consumable materials are included in the fee. Recommendations and Requirements: Students must always wear safety toe leather boots, cotton pants and long sleeved cotton shirts. Carving a Pie Pumpkin!

Join Bob, an experienced educator and woodworker, as he provides a hands-on presentation on how to carve correctly with quality tools. Bring in a pie pumpkin of your choosing and an aluminum tray to carve in. You will carve pumpkins like you never have before, using wood carving tools. The results will be frightening! Carving tools will be available during class, as well as choose from different templates. Minimum age requirement is 13. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
