Sewing Basics: Cotton Tote Bag

FINE ARTS, CRAFTS, FIBER, WOOD, & PHOTOGRAPHY -
Winter/Spring 2024

Ever considered learning to sew? Join us for this 1-night class, where we will construct a 12-inch x 14-inch tote bag with a square bottom. Beginning with walking through the basic functionality of the sewing machine, you will be able to sit down with confidence as we move into making your bag and custom straps.

We’ll be using a light quilting cotton, which you can find tons of, in many different patterns, at Joann’s Fabrics or other similar stores. It’s important not to select a heavy fabric as the sewing machine many not be able to get through all the layers during certain stitches.

If you have any questions prior to class, let us know and we will put you in touch with Meghan.

Please bring the following items to class:

  • 1/2 yard Calico or Quilt Cotton
  • 1/4 yard of coordinating fabric (if you’d like different colored straps)
  • 1 spool of matching thread

This class will meet inside CVU.
